Silky Mohair Lace
Composition: 72% brushed Superkid Mohair 28% Mulberry Silk Yarn
Metric Count: 1/8.4 Nm
Yarn Weight: Lace Weight, single ply construction
Meterage: Approx 420m (459 yds) per 50gm hank
Origin: South Africa
Description: We have a new, finer version of our popular lace weight brushed mohair/silk yarn. This replaces the previous version that contained kid mohair. We have used the softer and rarer Superkid mohair to produce our softest, most luxurious mohair/silk yarn ever. Two strands of mulberry silk hold the mohair fibres in place to add radiance and strength. Gentle enough for next to skin wear.
The softness of mohair is the main determining factor of its quality. Superkid mohair is from the first shearing and these are the softest and finest fibres the mohair goats will ever produce. The second shearing is usually called kid mohair and is still of fine quality, but is not as soft as superkid mohair. This is a super light and airy yarn and can be worked at many different gauges. It produces gossamer-like items when large needles or hooks are used and soft, fluffy items at tighter gauges. It can also be carried with another yarn to add a delicate haze and to produce a surprisingly warm fabric.
When dry, fluff up the hank to restore fuzziness, if required.
With a generous 420m on each 50 gram hank, a little goes a long way.
Suggested Needle/Hook Sizes and Gauge: Recommended Needle Size: 3 - 4mm (US 2.5-6) needles and C -G hook

Description: A yarn that is as close to its natural origins as possible. No superwash treatment, just a wash to remove the grease and dirt from the fleece then combed for spinning. A great choice for those looking for a luxurious, non superwash, no nylon yarn.
The main factor determining the quality of merino wool is its softness which depends upon the fineness of the fibres. We use extrafine merino (19.5 microns) which is some of the finest commercially available for hand dyers. This results in a supersoft yarn that feels gentle against the skin. When washing untreated yarns, be careful to avoid sudden temperature changes and do not agitate. Raise and lower the temperature of your wool only gradually and agitate as little as possible. Garments made from these yarns should be washed in cool or room temperature water with minimal agitation (it is agitation and heat that causes wool to felt).

The Bee's Knees - Fingering
Composition: 75% Superwash Ultrafine Merino Wool (16.5 micron)/15% Mulberry Silk/10% Cashmere
Metric Count: 2/8Nm
Yarn Weight: Sock/Fingering weight, 2 ply construction
Meterage: Approx 400m (437 yards) per 100g hank
Origin: Australia
Description: Introducing 'Contessa', our latest luxury yarn, spun from a blend of ultrafine merino, silk and cashmere.
Ultrafine merino is as fine as cashmere and is the finest grade of merino commercially available. Only 3.5% of merino fibre in the world is fine enough to be graded as ultrafine. This batch of merino is not only ultra-soft, but also long staple for added strength and less pilling. Mulberry silk has been added for drape and lustre and some cashmere for that fuzzy halo only cashmere can provide. The yarn has 2 plies and a medium twist. This combination allows room for the cashmere fibres to bloom and the merino fibres to plump up and support them. It is ideal for lace as the 2 plies roll away from each other to open up the lacework and reveal the pattern. This yarn likes a needle size of 3.25mm for a plump and cosy fabric or 3.75mm and above for a light and barely there feel.
I would use this yarn for items with some lace detailing and where its softness can best be appreciated next to the skin. There are 400 metres in a 100 gram skein so one skein would be enough for a cosy cowl or medium sized shawl, 2 or 3 skeins would make a very indulgent wrap and 3-4 skeins would make a fabulous jumper with lace detailing around the yoke or hem.
We recommend hand washing only for this luxurious yarn. The cashmere will bloom after washing to produce a subtle halo.
Suggested Needle/Hook Sizes and Gauge: Recommended Needle Size: 3mm - 4mm needles (US 2.5 - 6) and C- G hook
Gauge (stocking stitch): 28sts x 36 rows over 10cm/4 inches on 3.25mm (US 3) needles
Care Instructions:Hand wash using a wool detergent, ideally below 30°C, avoid wringing and twisting. Dry flat out of direct sunlight, do not spin or tumble dry.
